I was left with many questions as I read, the most irritating of which was “why does Kami take every unbelievable thing she sees or hears so well?” These questions made me feel disconnected from the story.
To me, this particular book skimmed over a lot of opportunities to draw the reader into the story. It is hard to convince your readers to believe in something that doesn’t happen in their real lives and I think that a story that is attempting to do that must be very carefully crafted. It is whimsical and fun but I think it could have used a lot more development to create a world where the fantastic elements are believable.
